PSG 5-4 Bayern Munich: Diaz and Dembele on target in historic Champions League semi-final classic

Paris Saint-Germain beat Bayern Munich 5-4 in the Champions League semi-final first leg at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday evening.

This fixture became the joint-highest-scoring semi-final in the competition’s history.

Bayern went ahead in the 17th minute. William Pacho fouled Luis Diaz in the box, and Harry Kane converted from the spot.

Michael Olise should have doubled their lead afterwards after being slipped in by Kane, but failed to beat Matvey Safonov.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia drew the hosts level on 24 minutes, combining with Desire Doue before producing a fine finish.

Olise came close to restoring Bayern’s lead, skipping past Nuno Mendes and Marquinhos, only to be denied by the post.

Joao Neves completed the turnaround for PSG, heading Dembele’s corner into the net.

Olise soon made it 2-2. He jinked past his markers before hammering the ball past Safonov.

However, Dembele ensured PSG went into the break with the lead, beating Manuel Neuer from the penalty spot.

Kvaratskhelia extended the defending champions’ advantage in the 56th minute, running onto Achraf Hakimi’s cross and finishing clinically.

Dembele then made it 5-2 following a brilliant counter-attacking move.

The Bavarians pulled one back in the 65th minute, with Dayot Upamecano heading the ball into the bottom corner.

Diaz further reduced the deficit. He ran in behind to latch onto Kane’s pass before applying the finish.

Bayern nearly salvaged a draw in stoppage time, but Pacho produced a goalline clearance. PSG have a narrow advantage ahead of next Wednesday’s second leg at the Allianz Arena.
