West Ham earn crucial point at Palace to confirm Wolves’ relegation

Crystal Palace were held to a goalless draw by West Ham United in the Premier League at Selhurst Park on Monday.

The hosts made a bright start and were almost rewarded with the opener when Jorgen Strand Larsen met Tyrick Mitchell’s low cross, but his effort flew wide.

Valentin Castellanos fired over at the other end in an action-packed start to the fixture.

Brennan Johnson had a golden chance to open the scoring from Jefferson Lerma’s cross, but he failed to connect. He curled another effort just past the post minutes later.

Dean Henderson flapped at a header and gifted Castellanos a chance from close range, but Maxence Lacroix produced a crucial goal-line block to deny his acrobatic effort.

Konstantinos Mavropanos came close to opening the scoring after he met El Hadji Malick Diouf’s cross, but Henderson kept out his header.

Mitchell then dragged an effort wide of the far post at the other end.

Daichi Kamada found Lerma with a free-kick after the break, but Mads Hermansen comfortably saved his effort.

Ismaila Sarr thought he had broken the deadlock when Mitchell’s delivery led to a scramble.

Axel Disasi made initial contact, and the ball dropped to Sarr off Jean-Philippe Mateta, only for the goal to be disallowed for handball.

Palace dominated the closing stages of the game, but the Hammers held on to secure a crucial point in their quest for survival.

West Ham’s draw confirmed Wolverhampton Wanderers have been relegated from the Premier League.
