Liverpool are in talks with midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai over a new contract, with his current deal set to expire in 2028.
Szoboszlai was pivotal to Liverpool’s Premier League success last season and has been impressive this term.
He has produced several decisive moments, including a brilliant free-kick in the 1-0 victory over Arsenal in August, which earned the Premier League Goal of the Month.
He has won the club’s Player of the Month four times, equalling Mohamed Salah’s tally from last season. Only Hugo Ekitike has more goal involvements than him across all competitions.
Szoboszlai has now revealed that there has been no progress in his contract renewal talks with Liverpool, although he is relaxed about the situation.
He said via the Liverpool Echo: “As I said (a few weeks ago), there has been no real progression. So I cannot say anything new about my contract situation.
“We have a lot of games to go, and I am focusing on that. As you guys may know, my contract ends in 2028, so I am ready to go every day, every week, and then let’s see.
“I see myself here in the long term, but as I say, it is not really in my hands any more. I love being here, as I’ve said many times. I love the fans, and I really like to be here. My family is happy. Let’s see.
“I’m completely relaxed. We have five games to go. Then I am going to rest – a big one, after my international break. Then we will see.
“The fans’ support – it means a lot. Every time they chant my name, it means a lot. I think we made it clear what happened against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.”
Szoboszlai is aiming to finish the season strongly by helping Liverpool qualify for the Champions League.
His corner led to Virgil van Dijk’s stoppage-time winner against Everton on Sunday, putting the fifth-placed Reds in firm control of securing the last qualification spot.
“We have to keep fighting for the Champions League spots, and there are going to be tough games ahead of us,” he added.
“It is always hard when you play against the teams that are close to you.”
Liverpool need nine points to guarantee qualification for Europe’s elite club competition for a third consecutive season.
