Kieran Trippier will leave Newcastle United at the end of the season when his contract expires.
The defender joined Newcastle from Atletico Madrid in January 2022 and became a key figure in the club’s resurgence.
Trippier has made 157 appearances and played an important leadership role for Newcastle.
He confirmed his departure in a statement released by the club.
“This is where I have felt most at home,” he said. “It’s emotional, and I’m really going to miss it.”
The right-back also thanked his teammates while reflecting on his time at Newcastle.
“It’s been an amazing journey with you guys,” Trippier added. “I’m going to miss you all, but to win a trophy with you guys was really special.”
One of the highlights of Trippier’s Newcastle career came during the 2024/25 campaign when the club ended a 70-year wait for major silverware.
Trippier played the full 90 minutes as Newcastle defeated Liverpool in the League Cup final.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe praised the defender’s influence both on and off the pitch.
“From the moment he walked through the door, he helped drive standards that changed the club’s trajectory,” Howe said. “His leadership skills have been invaluable.”
Trippier arrived at Newcastle during a crucial period when the club were battling relegation shortly after the club’s ownership change.
His experience and professionalism helped stabilise the squad and establish higher expectations within the dressing room.
Before joining Newcastle, Trippier built a successful career across several clubs.
He came through the academy at Manchester City before establishing himself at Burnley and later moving to Tottenham Hotspur.
Trippier started the Champions League Final for Tottenham in 2019 before moving to Atletico Madrid, where he won the La Liga title two years later.
Newcastle confirmed that Trippier’s final appearance for the club is expected to come in their final league match of the season against Fulham on May 24.
The Magpies, currently sitting mid-table in the Premier League, face Crystal Palace next weekend as they prepare for the closing weeks of the campaign.
