Boost for Manchester United as key summer target ready to leave Premier League club

Manchester United have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton.

According to the Sun, Wharton is ready to leave the Eagles in the summer and wants to join a Champions League club.

The Red Devils have enjoyed a resurgence in form under Michael Carrick, and are on course to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

With seven games remaining in the season, United are third in the table with six points ahead of fifth-placed Liverpool

They are prioritising midfield additions in the next transfer window. Casemiro has already announced he will leave the club at the end of the season, while Manuel Ugarte may be sold.

United have identified Wharton as a key target, alongside Elliot Anderson, Sandro Tonali and Carlos Baleba.

The 22-year-old is one of the best midfielders in the Premier League. He has hit the ground running since joining Palace from Blackburn Rovers in 2024.

The England international has made 84 appearances for Palace, with 12 assists to his name.

The midfielder started in Palace’s FA Cup final victory against Manchester City last year, and he has also been a key fixture of the first team this season.

Wharton is a technically gifted playmaker who is highly rated for his composure, progressive passing and defensive work-rate.

He has already proven his abilities in the Premier League.

However, with his contract not expiring until 2029, Palace are expected to demand a hefty fee for a transfer in the next window.
