Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has dismissed speculation linking him with the Real Madrid managerial job this summer.
The German tactician branded the rumours nonsense as publications continue to speculate who will take the reins at Los Blancos this summer.
Klopp stepped down at Anfield at the end of the 2023/24 campaign. He has been repeatedly mentioned as a potential successor to Alvaro Arbeloa.
However, Klopp was unequivocal when addressing the links during a media appearance in Munich.
“If Real Madrid had phoned, we would have heard about it by now,” he said to reporters at the Magenta TV event (via the Daily Mail).
“But that’s all nonsense. They haven’t called even once, not once. My agent is there, you can ask him. They haven’t called him either.”
Klopp is now working as Red Bull’s head of global football.
He has stepped back from frontline coaching after nearly nine years on Merseyside, during which he delivered the Champions League and Premier League titles.
His current role overseeing the Red Bull club network puts him in a stronger strategic position in the game.
Despite ruling out any immediate return to management, the 58-year-old hinted his coaching career may not be over just yet.
“For my age, I’m quite advanced in life, but as a coach I’m not completely finished,” he added.
“I haven’t reached retirement age. Who knows what will happen in the coming years? But there’s nothing planned.”
The speculation around Klopp stems from the uncertainty in Madrid, with Arbeloa’s side struggling to reclaim top spot in La Liga after an inconsistent campaign.
They have a Champions League quarter-final clash against Bayern Munich and are widely considered underdogs. The Madrid dugout is crying out for a winner like Klopp.
Klopp’s successor at Liverpool, Arne Slot, continues to face scrutiny in his second season, fuelling inevitable talk of a romantic return.
For now, Klopp appears content watching from afar.
