Why Manchester United are in danger of missing out on Elliot Anderson

Manchester United focused heavily on attacking additions last year by signing Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko.

Midfield reinforcements are now emerging as a top priority for United this summer.

The Red Devils have been linked with several players, but Elliot Anderson is reportedly one of their key targets.

The Nottingham Forest star is highly rated for his energy, versatility and technical ability. His key strengths are his dribbling, passing and defensive play.

Despite Forest’s struggles in the Premier League, Anderson has enjoyed an impressive season, starting all 30 games and scoring two goals.

United would love to sign the 23-year-old. However, with Manchester City also firmly in the race, a deal is not expected to be easy.

Forest are expected to demand a hefty fee for their star performer, who is contracted with the club until 2029.

United may decide to meet their valuation, but the player’s salary demands could also be an issue.

According to journalist Samuel Luckhurst, City are currently leading the transfer race for Anderson

It is doubtful whether United would compete with their rivals to match the midfielder’s salary demands.

The Red Devils made the mistake of offering players big wages in the past, but have changed their transfer policy under co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Casemiro is a perfect example. He was signed on a contract worth £400,000-per-week.

While the Brazilian has been impressive this season, the club’s hierarchy will stick with their original decision and let him leave as a free agent this summer.
