Record-breaker Mohamed Salah leads Liverpool to 4-0 Galatasaray rout

Liverpool produced a dominant display at Anfield to beat Galatasaray 4-0 tonight and secure a place in the Champions League quarter-finals with authority.

Trailing 1-0 from the first leg in Istanbul, Liverpool approached the game with urgency and control from the outset.

Their early pressure eventually told when Dominik Szoboszlai opened the scoring with a precise finish from a well-worked set-piece, levelling the tie on aggregate.

Liverpool continued to create chances and could have extended their lead before the break.

Mohamed Salah had the opportunity to give the hosts control of the tie from the penalty spot, but Ugurcan Cakir saved his poor effort.

Despite that setback, Liverpool maintained their intensity and carried momentum into the second half.

The breakthrough moment came early after the restart when Salah delivered a superb pass across goal for Hugo Ekitike to tap in from close range.

That goal shifted the balance fully in Liverpool’s favour as Galatasaray struggled to cope with the hosts’ tempo.

Liverpool struck again moments later when Salah’s shot was parried by Cakir, and Ryan Gravenberch reacted quickest to convert the rebound.

The hosts briefly thought they had added a fourth through an own goal, but it was ruled out for offside.

However, the fourth goal soon arrived. Salah found space outside the box and curled a powerful effort into the top corner to cap a strong individual performance.

The goal also marked a historic milestone, as Salah became the first African player to reach 50 Champions League goals.

Liverpool’s attacking display overwhelmed Galatasaray, who were unable to recover after conceding early in the second half.

Cakir produced several saves to keep the scoreline respectable, but the visitors offered little threat going forward.

The absence of away supporters following a UEFA sanction further underlined a difficult night for the Turkish side.

Liverpool played with confidence and purpose, delivering one of their most complete performances of the season.

The result sets up a quarter-final clash with Paris Saint-Germain, offering Arne Slot’s side a chance to progress further in Europe.

The victory keeps Liverpool’s season alive and restores belief after recent domestic setbacks.

For Galatasaray, it marks a disappointing end to their European campaign after failing to build on their first-leg advantage.
