Chelsea set unwanted Champions League record as Senny Mayulu seals PSG rout

Chelsea were beaten 3-0 by Paris Saint-Germain at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday, crashing out of the Champions League 8-2 on aggregate.

The visitors opened the scoring in the sixth minute. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia controlled a long pass, held off Mamadou Sarr and curled the ball past Robert Sanchez.

Kvaratskhelia has now scored 12 goals in the Champions League. He is the first Georgian player to reach double figures in the competition.

Bradley Barcola doubled PSG’s lead in the 15th minute, curling a brilliant strike into the top left corner.

Chelsea’s first genuine attempt came through Joao Pedro in the 36th minute, forcing Matvei Safonov to make a save.

The PSG goalkeeper made two brilliant saves to preserve the visitors’ lead before half-time, keeping out Cole Palmer’s shot and Jorrel Hato’s header.

Safonov made a good stop to deny substitute Liam Delap converting Pedro Neto’s cross after the break.

Senny Mayulu then made it 3-0 in the 62nd minute, rifling an unstoppable shot past Sanchez, who was rooted to the spot.

Chelsea have conceded eight goals across a domestic or European two-legged tie for the first time in their history.

Alejandro Garnacho came close to pulling one back for the Blues late on with a low shot, but Safonov saved his effort.

PSG will face either Liverpool or Galatasaray in the quarter-finals.
