West Ham dent City’s title hopes with a 1-1 draw to move out of the drop zone

Manchester City were held to a 1-1 stalemate by West Ham United in the Premier League at the London Stadium on Saturday.

The visitors bossed possession for the first half an hour but couldn’t test Mads Hermansen in the West Ham goal.

Bernardo Silva opened the scoring by dinking the ball over Hermansen in the 31st minute.

Their lead lasted for three minutes, as Konstantinos Mavropanos drew the Hammers level after he got onto Jarrod Bowen’s cross from a corner.

Antoine Semenyo almost restored City’s lead after he met Erling Braut Haaland’s cutback pass, but he drilled his effort wide.

Haaland could’ve fired the visitors ahead after the break. He was found by Rayan Cherki, but Hermansen parried his effort away. Abdukodir Khusanov headed wide from the resulting corner.

Tijjani Reijnders’s free kick was tipped onto the crossbar by Hermansen as City kept probing for a winner.

Marc Guehi could’ve won it for City at the death after West Ham failed to clear their lines from a corner, but he skied his effort from six yards out.

The result leaves City nine points behind leaders Arsenal, who defeated Everton 2-0 earlier today, while the Hammers currently sit 17th, a point above the drop zone.
