Three worst performers for Liverpool in Champions League defeat to Galatasaray

Liverpool are in danger of a shock Champions League exit after losing 1-0 to Galatasaray in their round of 16 first-leg on Tuesday.

The Reds’ defensive frailties were exposed once again as Mario Lemina nodded home the only goal of the contest in the seventh minute.

Arne Slot’s men must now produce a far better display to overturn the deficit in next Wednesday’s second-leg at Anfield.

We look at the three worst performers for Liverpool in the Champions League defeat at Rams Park.

Ibrahima Konate

Ibrahima Konate endured a nightmare in Turkey.

The centre-back made two atrocious attempted clearances, both of which could have resulted in goals for Victor Osimhen.

Konate should have done better in the build-up to the opener. His passing was also terrible, completing just 36 percent of his passes in the opposition half.

Florian Wirtz

Slot started Florian Wirtz immediately after his return from injury, but he failed to repay his faith.

The German playmaker was guilty of missing two scoring opportunities for Liverpool in the first-half.

Wirtz had 47 touches in the match, and lost possession on 14 occasions. He was dribbled past once and won just half of his ground duels.

Mohamed Salah

Slot made a bold move when he substituted Mohamed Salah on the hour mark. Given his ineffective display, it was a justified call.

The Egyptian star failed to muster a single shot during his 60 minutes on the pitch and lost possession on nine occasions.

Salah has been a shadow of his former self this season, scoring just five goals in 21 Premier League appearances. Liverpool need to move on from him.
