Tottenham Hotspur interim manager Igor Tudor has admitted that his current role represents the biggest challenge of his coaching career.
Tudor took charge earlier this month following Thomas Frank’s dismissal. His first match ended in a heavy 4-1 home defeat to Arsenal, leaving Spurs hovering just four points above the relegation zone.
With 11 league fixtures remaining, the Croatian acknowledged the scale of the task confronting him.
“Probably, yes,” Tudor said when asked whether this was his toughest job. “If I recognise the difficulties there are, then probably it is.”
Spurs are without a league win in nine matches and have struggled for consistency throughout the season.
An extensive injury list has compounded their problems, although Pedro Porro and Kevin Danso have returned to training.
Cristian Romero is suspended, while several senior players are still sidelined.
Tudor described the situation as an ’emergency’ and stressed that survival, rather than style, is the immediate priority.
“It’s not about style at this moment,” he said. “Now it’s a question of life and death, sportingly.”
The former Juventus and Lazio manager insisted that pragmatism must guide Tottenham’s approach in the coming weeks.
“Every game needs to be prepared in a way to take points, one way or the other,” Tudor said.
Spurs’ position in the table has heightened concerns about the financial and sporting consequences of relegation.
However, Tudor refused to use the term directly, instead urging focus on internal improvement.
“It’s not a dangerous word,” he explained. “It’s about refocusing on ourselves and what we can control.”
He emphasised the need to improve physical condition, mental resilience and overall performance levels.
“Daily work, focus and raising everything we need to do,” Tudor said.
The 47-year-old is now in his 12th managerial post since beginning his coaching career in 2013.
Despite the pressure, he framed the challenge as a source of motivation.
“It’s an even bigger motivation to do this,” he said.
Tottenham travel to Fulham next, knowing that results, rather than aesthetics, will define Tudor’s early tenure.
