Striker Marc Guiu has recently been linked with an exit from Chelsea, with reports suggesting he had submitted a transfer request.
Guiu’s only appearance since the turn of the year was in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg defeat at Arsenal.
Chelsea have largely operated with a single striker this season, and with Joao Pedro and Liam Delap ahead of him in the pecking order, Guiu has struggled for minutes.
Pedro has chipped in with 19 goal involvements across all competitions, while Delap has added five.
Journalist Simon Johnson now reports that Guiu has not submitted a transfer request. He claims the striker still loves Chelsea and is determined to help them succeed this season.
The Spaniard joined Chelsea from Barcelona in the summer of 2024. He has made just 27 appearances across all competitions, registering eight goals and two assists.
Most of these outings have been as a substitute, with Guiu named in the starting line-up just 12 times, underlining his struggles for game time.
The Spain youth international arrived with huge expectations after coming through the ranks at Barcelona, as a part of Chelsea’s long-term recruitment strategy.
However, due to injuries and the competition for places, Guiu has been unable to impress at the west London club.
Guiu had initially agreed to join Sunderland on loan last summer, but only made three appearances before being recalled following Liam Delap’s injury.
His game time is unlikely to improve before the end of the season, with Chelsea pushing for Champions League qualification and competing for silverware.
As a result, manager Liam Rosenior will likely stick with Pedro and Delap as the first-choice strikers for the rest of the campaign.
With Emmanuel Emegha arriving from Strasbourg next summer, competition for places would increase, which could raise further questions about Guiu’s future at Chelsea.
