Bodo/Glimt make Champions League history with 5-2 aggregate win over Inter Milan

Bodo/Glimt defeated Inter Milan 2-1 at San Siro on Tuesday to secure a 5-2 aggregate victory and book their place in the Champions League last 16.

The Norwegian outfit opened the scoring in the 58th minute when Jens Petter Hauge scored from close range following Manuel Akanji’s defensive error.

Hauge then turned provider, floating a perfect cross into the box for Hakon Even to slot past Yann Sommer, giving the visitors a two-goal lead.

Alessandro Bastoni pulled one back for Inter, but it was too late for them to overturn the three-goal deficit.

Bodo/Glimt have now become the first Norwegian side to progress in a knockout stage tie in the Champions League since the competition’s rebrand in 1992.

They are also the first club from outside the big five leagues to win four consecutive games in a European Cup or Champions League campaign against teams from those leagues.

The four-time Eliteserien champions had beaten Manchester City and Atletico Madrid in the league phase before defeating Inter in the play-offs.

Bodo/Glimt are the first Norwegian team to eliminate an Italian side in the knockout stage of the competition.

Kjetil Knutsen’s side will face either Man City or Sporting CP in the last-16.
