Atletico Madrid offer contract extension to Julian Alvarez

Atletico Madrid have presented Julian Alvarez with a contract renewal offer in an effort to fend off mounting interest from Europe’s elite.

According to SPORT, the hierarchy at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano is moving swiftly to secure Alvarez’s long-term commitment despite the Argentine forward being under contract until 2030.

Barcelona have identified Alvarez as the dream successor to Robert Lewandowski ahead of his impending exit from Camp Nou.

Arsenal reportedly had a staggering €120 million bid rejected during the winter window.

By presenting a lucrative extension less than two years after he arrived from Manchester City, Atletico are sending a clear message – Alvarez is untouchable.

The proposed deal reportedly includes a salary bump and a higher release clause to further insulate Los Colchoneros from the financial leverage of any interested parties.

While Alvarez has struggled recently, his recent performance in Atletico’s 4-0 thrashing of Barcelona served as a timely reminder of his world-class quality.

Atletico president Enrique Cerezo recently insisted that Alvarez is ‘happy and under contract’, but the club knows that tying him down to a new deal is the only way to silence the summer transfer rumours.

Alvarez and Atletico will look to make an impression in Wednesday’s Champions League knockout round play-off first leg against Club Brugge.
