Tottenham sack Thomas Frank after winless run leaves Spurs hovering near relegation zone

Tottenham Hotspur have sacked manager Thomas Frank, according to The Athletic.

Frank was appointed last summer as a replacement for Ange Postecoglou, who guided the club to a 17th-place finish but won the Europa League last season.

He was unable to turn things around domestically, with Tuesday’s 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle United leaving them just five points adrift of the relegation zone.

Spurs are now winless in their last eight league games – their longest winless streak in the top-flight for over 17 years.

Their performances have been unconvincing, particularly at home. They have collected just 10 points, the second fewest in the division.

Frank won seven of his 26 league matches, giving him a 26.9 per cent winning ratio – the lowest of any Spurs manager to have been in charge for more than 10 matches in the competition.

Tottenham were knocked out of the League Cup in the fourth round, losing 2-0 to Newcastle, and lost 2-1 to Aston Villa in the FA Cup third round.

However, Frank guided Spurs to the knockout phase of the Champions League. so may feel he had done enough to avoid being sacked.

Roberto de Zerbi, Enzo Maresca and Xabi Alonso, all of whom were sacked at their previous clubs this term, are potential candidates to replace Frank.
