Real Madrid 6-1 Monaco: Vinicius shines as Mbappe matches Ronaldo record in Les Monegasques thrashing

Real Madrid thrashed Monaco 6-1 in the Champions League at the Bernabeu on Tuesday.

Kylian Mbappe put Madrid ahead in the fifth minute. He received Federico Valverde’s lay-off on the edge of the box, before curling his shot into the bottom corner.

Vinicius Junior nearly doubled the hosts’ lead, picking up possession before powering a low strike just wide of the post.

Mbappe made it 2-0, running into the box to meet Vinicius’s low cross before calmly applying the finish to register his 11th goal in the competition.

The Frenchman is now joint-top for the most scored in a single group stage game alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, who did the same in the 2015/2016 season.

Jordan Teze came close to reducing Monaco’s deficit, curling an effort towards the goal, but he was denied by the woodwork.

Franco Mastantuono extended Los Blancos’ advantage after the break with a superb finish to the far corner.

Thilo Kehrer scored an own goal from Vinicius’s low cross, deepening Monaco’s woes.

The Brazilian eventually got on the scoresheet after the hour mark with a brilliant finish, firing an unstoppable shot into the top corner.

Tete pulled one back for the visitors, taking advantage of a poor back pass from Thibaut Courtois.

Jude Bellingham restored Madrid’s five-goal lead late on, rounding the goalkeeper to complete the scoring.

Madrid have now climbed to second on the standings, six points behind leaders Arsenal.
