Ruben Amorim addresses Joshua Zirkzee’s Manchester United future after brilliant cameo against Leeds

Ruben Amorim has warned Joshua Zirkzee that he shouldn’t be thinking about sealing a move away from Manchester United this winter.

United drew 1-1 at Leeds United on Sunday, with Matheus Cunha levelling the scores three minutes after Brenden Aaronson’s superb strike in the second half.

Zirkzee wasn’t part of the Red Devils’ starting XI, but he impressed with his performance after coming off the bench in the 63rd minute.

The Netherlands international set up Cunha for the equaliser, and also delivered two key passes.

While the Brazilian was named man of the match, Amorim praised Zirkzee for his impact.

The Portuguese boss told TNT Sports. “I think Josh played well in the 25 minutes he had. [He] connected very well with his teammates, and he showed he’s got a lot to give.”

When asked about Zirkzee’s future in Manchester beyond the winter transfer window, Amorim added: “You need to focus on United. Man United is one of the biggest clubs in the world.

“If you are here and focused on a different club, something is wrong with you.”

Zirkzee joined United from Bologna for around £36.5 million in 2024. He has failed to make an impact at the club, scoring nine goals in 63 senior appearances.

With Benjamin Sesko ahead of him in the pecking order, the Dutchman has been limited to just four Premier League starts this season.

Zirzkee played well in Sunday’s match at Leeds, but he is clearly not part of Amorim’s long-term plans.

Roma are keen to bring the striker back to the Serie A, and a good offer from them could tempt United to sanction a transfer this month.
