Frankfurt strike loan deal to rescue Kalimuendo from Forest nightmare

Eintracht Frankfurt have reached an agreement with Nottingham Forest for the loan signing of Arnaud Kalimuendo, with an option to make the move permanent at the end of the season.

According to Sky Germany, the 23-year-old will join Frankfurt for the remainder of the campaign, with a medical scheduled for later this week.

Kalimuendo only joined Forest last August but has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter at the City Ground.

He has made 13 appearances across all competitions, scoring twice in the Europa League. Kalimuendo last featured in the 1-0 defeat by Fulham on December 22.

Frankfurt have been active in the winter transfer window as they strive to reinforce their attacking options following recent departures and injuries.

They allowed Elye Wahi to leave the club earlier this month and have already completed the signing of Younes Ebnoutalib from Elversberg.

Kalimuendo is expected to provide further depth in a forward line currently depleted by the absences of Jonathan Burkardt and Michy Batshuayi, who are sidelined with injuries.

The Bundesliga side have tracked Kalimuendo across several transfer windows and moved quickly once the opportunity arose to bring him to the Deutsche Bank Park.

Kalimuendo was one of several attacking signings made in quick succession last summer when Forest spent heavily to reshape their squad.

They invested more than £90 million on attacking reinforcements, including James McAtee from Manchester City and Omari Hutchinson from Ipswich Town.

Forest paid around €30 million to sign the former France Under-21 international from Rennes, with the club believing strongly in his long-term potential.

However, opportunities have been limited under multiple managers. Despite his reduced role domestically, Kalimuendo has shown flashes of his quality in European competition.

Forest are expected to explore their own attacking reinforcements during the winter transfer window, with injuries further stretching their options.

Chris Wood wil miss several weeks following knee surgery, increasing the need for depth in the final third.

Frankfurt view Kalimuendo as a calculated addition who can contribute immediately while offering long-term upside.

If the option to buy is activated, the move could mark a permanent reset for a player once considered one of the brightest young attackers in French football.
