Liverpool have no plans to sign Antoine Semenyo, Manchester City are the favourites

Liverpool reportedly have no plans to sign Antoine Semenyo in the winter transfer window, leaving Manchester City as the favourites to secure his services.

Bournemouth are set to lose Semenyo due to the £65 million release clause in his contract.

Semenyo favours a move to City, but the Cherries expected Liverpool to join the race

However, they would only consider a summer move, which leaves City in pole position to sign him.

Liverpool spent over £450m to sign seven new players last summer, but injuries and unavailability have left them short of attacking options.

Alexander Isak is expected to be out for a lengthy spell after sustaining an ankle injury during the 2-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur

Mohamed Salah is representing Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), and he is unlikely to return to Anfield until late January.

Liverpool were tipped to make a move for Semenyo, but they have no plans to make attacking signings during the winter transfer window.

Hugo Ekitike has led the line in Isak’s absence. He has been excellent, scoring five goals in his last four league matches.

With Cody Gakpo not fully fit, Federico Chiesa was handed his first Premier League start against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday. However, he failed to impress.
