Liverpool surrendered a two-goal lead as Leeds United produced a fierce comeback to draw 3-3 in a chaotic Premier League contest at Elland Road today.
Arne Slot’s side looked on course for victory as they moved 2-0 ahead early in the second half. Leeds drew level before Dominik Szoboszlai put Liverpool 3-2 in front.
Leeds refused to accept defeat, and substitute Ao Tanaka smashed in a 96th-minute equaliser to spark wild celebrations.
Liverpool had struggled to create clear chances before the interval, although Curtis Jones rattled the woodwork with a curling strike.
Slot again started without Mohamed Salah and Alexander Isak, handing Hugo Ekitike a rare start.
The forward rewarded that decision immediately after half-time by pouncing on a loose pass and finishing calmly past Lucas Perri.
Ekitike struck again moments later from close range to become the first Liverpool player this season to score twice in a Premier League match.
Liverpool appeared comfortable at 2-0, but Leeds were given a route back into the game when Ibrahima Konate brought down Wilfried Gnonto inside the area.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin converted the penalty, and Elland Road came alive as momentum shifted.
The home side made the most of their attacking pressure, with Anton Stach drilling in a low finish to level the score.
Szoboszlai then restored Liverpool’s advantage by racing onto a through ball and finishing with authority to silence the crowd.
The visitors still could not shut the game down, and Leeds threw bodies forward in stoppage time.
A deep corner cannoned off Ryan Gravenberch and dropped for Tanaka, who lashed home from close range.
Liverpool were unhappy at their inability to protect a lead, having been within seconds of a victory that would have boosted confidence.
The draw extends their unbeaten run to three matches but does little to solve the defensive fragility that continues to define their season.
