West Ham unlikely to discipline Lucas Paqueta for his red card against Liverpool

West Ham United are unlikely to discipline Lucas Paqueta for his red card against Liverpool on Sunday.

Paqueta received a yellow for protesting Niclas Fullkrug’s foul on Dominik Szoboszlai in the 83rd minute when the Reds were leading 1-0.

The second came moments later when the Brazilian continued ranting at the referee despite the pleas of his teammates.

West Ham subsequently conceded another goal in stoppage time as Liverpool sealed a comfortable 2-0 win at the London Stadium

Paqueta’s behaviour has not gone down well with several figures at the London club, but there is little indication that they will discipline the player.

The Hammers plan to offer the midfielder access to psychological support, per the Guardian.

The Brazil international was the subject of a Football Association probe into alleged betting breaches.

The charges could have led to a lifetime ban, but an independent commission cleared him in July

The investigation has seemingly taken its toll on Paqueta, who hit out at football’s authorities for failing to provide him with psychological support.

Paqueta will be suspended when West Ham face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Thursday.

The 28-year-old has been an important player for the Irons this season, scoring three goals in 12 league appearances.
