Man City starlets impress as England U17s reach World Cup knockout stage after 3-0 win over Egypt

England booked their place in the U17 World Cup round of 32 after a convincing 3-0 win over Egypt in their last group game.

The Young Lions thrashed Haiti 8-1 in their last outing but needed to win this fixture to secure qualification for the next round.

England began the game brightly and went ahead in the 14th minute, when Reigan Heskey weaved past his markers to pick out the bottom-right corner.

The Manchester City starlet should have doubled the lead when Chizaram Ezenwata set him up, but he fluffed his lines.

Egypt eventually grew into the game and thought they had drawn level, but their effort was ruled offside.

England goalkeeper Jack Porter prevented the Pharaohs from restoring parity before the end of the first half.

Porter was brilliant again after the break, keeping out Belal Attia and Ibrahim El Nagaawy’s efforts.

England doubled their lead against the run of play as Heskey raced through on goal after receiving a pass from Luca Williams-Barnett and slotting the ball between the goalkeeper’s legs.

The forward missed a chance to net a hat-trick from the penalty spot, with the Egyptian goalkeeper saving his effort.

Harrison Miles completed the scoring on the stroke of full-time, running the length of the field before applying the finish from an acute angle.
