Wolves edging closer to Rob Edwards appointment

Wolverhampton Wanderers have made Rob Edwards their number one target to replace Vitor Pereira.

Middlesbrough rejected Wolves’ initial approach to speak to Edwards. However, his future has been plunged into serious doubt as the club cancelled his pre-match press conference on Friday

According to the Guardian’s Ben Fisher, Edwards also did not take training this morning.

Wolves were in advanced negotiations with Gary O’Neil to return to the club for a second spell. However, he had a change of heart and withdrew from the race

Wolves have turned their attention to Edwards, who is highly regarded by executive chairman Jeff Shi.

The 42-year-old knows the club well, having previously worked as a coach at their academy.

Edwards has made an impressive start to life at Middlesbrough, with his team sitting third in the Championship table after collecting 26 points from 14 matches.

He has had managerial stints at Forest Green Rovers, Watford and Luton Town. Edwards guided the Hatters to Premier League promotion in his first season in 2022/23.

Luton were relegated after one year in the top flight, and Edwards was dismissed in January 2025.
