Matty Cash signs new Aston Villa deal after Man City match-winner

Matty Cash has signed a new four-year contract with Aston Villa.

The Poland international’s previous deal was due to expire in 2027, but Villa have now tied him down to fresh terms that include an option for an additional year.

The agreement ends speculation over his long-term future following AC Milan’s interest last summer.

Cash joined Villa from Nottingham Forest in September 2020 after making over 140 senior appearances for his boyhood club.

He has featured 193 times for Villa, bagging 12 goals and 12 assists across all competitions. The 28-year-old has become a trusted figure under manager Unai Emery, who values his tactical discipline and work rate.

Operating as an inverted right-back in Emery’s system, Cash often forms part of a back three in possession, sacrificing his attacking freedom to maintain defensive structure.

His adaptability and reliability have made him a key part of Villa’s resurgence. Cash’s recent performances have been particularly decisive.

He delivered a pinpoint pass to set up Emiliano Buendia’s winner against Brentford earlier this month and netted the decisive strike in Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Manchester City.

Those displays earned him back-to-back player of the match awards as Villa extended their Premier League winning run to four games.

Emery has been keen to reward the defender’s consistency and commitment, viewing him as central to Villa’s ambitions both domestically and in Europe.

Cash’s contract extension also reflects the club’s intent to keep its core group intact as they look to build on last season’s progress.

Cash, who represented Poland at the 2022 World Cup, is now closing in on 200 appearances for the club and continues to be a dependable presence on and off the pitch.
