Former Chelsea and West Ham United manager Graham Potter has publicly expressed an interest in becoming Sweden’s head coach.
Sweden announced the dismissal of Jon Dahl Tomasson following the 1-0 home defeat to Kosovo earlier this week.
Potter, who was dismissed by West Ham last month, is eager to succeed Tomasson as Sweden’s new manager.
He told Swedish media outlet Fotbollskanalen (per BBC Sport): “I’m actually in Sweden right now, in my house in Sweden. I’m between jobs and just left the Premier League.
“I’m open to anything, really, where I feel I can help. The job as head coach of the Swedish national team is fantastic.
“I have feelings for Sweden. I love the country and I love Swedish football. I have a lot to be grateful for towards Swedish football.
“So yes, it would be a fantastic opportunity for me, obviously.”
Potter previously managed Swedish side Ostersunds from 2011 to 2018. He guided them from the country’s fourth tier to its top division and also helped them win the Swedish Cup in 2017.
Following a brief stint at Swansea City, Potter joined Brighton & Hove Albion in 2019, leading them to their highest-ever top-flight finish (ninth) in 2021-22.
His impressive work at Brighton landed him a job at Chelsea in 2022. But he lasted only seven months in the role after a series of poor results.
West Ham appointed Potter in January, but he failed to deliver results. He was dismissed after a dismal start to the new campaign, with the Hammers losing four of their opening five league games.
While Potter is eager to return to management, his record since leaving Brighton is a major cause for concern.
