Chelsea monitoring Guehi situation and goalkeeper options ahead of winter transfer window

Chelsea are monitoring defender Marc Guehi’s situation and assessing their goalkeeping options ahead of the winter transfer window, according to journalist Nizaar Kinsella.

Guehi is in the final year of his contract at Crystal Palace and has shown no intention of extending his stay at the club. Palace risk losing him for free unless they sell him in January.

He was close to joining Liverpool in the summer, but the deal fell through. The Reds are still pushing to sign him, but now face stiff competition.

Kinsella told the BBC that Chelsea could consider a move for Guehi. He says the hierarchy at Chelsea are aware of his qualities.

“I doubt injuries will factor in at this stage – given that Trevoh Chalobah, Wesley Fofana and Tosin Adarabioyo are due back after the international break,” he said.

“It would then be a case of whether Chelsea’s project appeals to Guehi, if they make an offer and whether he is the profile needed compared with others already on the books.

“I am not expecting to hear anything on this soon.”

While Chelsea could explore a move for Guehi, they are unlikely to reignite their interest in AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

They have money to spend in January, but are currently happy with their options and would only sign a player capable of taking the club to the next level.

The Blues are happy with Robert Sanchez’s form, who won the Golden Glove at the Club World Cup, and are not expected to return to the market.
