Inter Milan are exploring a move to sign SC Freiburg goalkeeper Noah Atubolu, according to journalist Florian Plettenberg.
The Nerazzurri are looking for a long-term successor for Yann Sommer, who could leave when his contract expires next summer.
They have added Atubolu to their list of targets after being impressed by his stellar progress in the Bundesliga.
The 23-year-old was instrumental in Freiburg qualifying for the Europa League last season. He has featured in 84 games for the German outfit.
He also set a new Bundesliga record last month after saving five consecutive penalties.
Atubolu also served as the first-choice goalkeeper for the German side that finished as the runners-up in the European Under-21 Championship earlier this year.
Julian Nagelsmann has handed him a call-up to the German national team for the first time for this month’s World Cup qualifying games as a replacement for Oliver Baumann.
With his contract expiring in June 2027, Inter have planned meetings with Atublou’s representatives to discuss a potential deal.
Inter manager Cristian Chivu is keen on reinforcing the goalkeeping position after being disappointed by Sommer’s poor performance in the 5-4 defeat against Juventus.
Chivu subsequently promoted Josip Martinez as the first-choice goalkeeper for consecutive league games against Sassuolo and Cagliari.
The Romanian wants to continue the strategy of sharing the game time between Sommer and Martinez this season.
Sommer received an offer from Turkish giants Galatasaray earlier this summer, but a move never materialised.
But the Swiss international could be heading to the exit door at the end of the season due to the growing uncertainty over his future.
Inter have also lined up Cagliari keeper Elia Caprile and Atalanta’s Marco Carnesecchi as potential targets.
