Gareth Southgate to reject Manchester United approach if Ruben Amorim is sacked

Gareth Southgate would reject an approach from Manchester United if Ruben Amorim is sacked.

Southgate has been linked with United, with Amorim on the brink following the club’s disastrous start to the new campaign.

The Portuguese boss is understood to retain the board’s support, but they are still making contingency plans.

Southgate is reportedly on a three-man shortlist to replace Amorim, along with Oliver Glasner and Andoni Iraola

However, the Daily Mirror claims the 55-year-old is not keen to replace Amroim.

Southgate has been out of a job since leaving England last summer, but he is in no rush to return to management.

Given his previous track record of failure, Southgate would be a risky choice to replace Amorim if United decide to part company with him.

Amorim lost the faith of United supporters after the humiliating 3-1 defeat at Brentford last Saturday

The Red Devils were appalling at the Gtech Community Stadium, conceding two shocking goals inside the opening 20 minutes.

Benjamin Sesko pulled one back for the visitors, but the Bees cruised to a comfortable 3-1 win after Mathias Jensen’s injury-time goal.

United welcome Sunderland to Old Trafford this weekend, and Amorim must lead his team to victory.

A defeat or draw will likely force the club’s hierarchy to make a change during the international break.

United are languishing in 14th place in the Premier League, and they cannot afford to drop any more points.
