Be careful what you wish for. Look before you leap. Don’t be too hasty. If only West Ham United paid attention to such simple sayings.
Their decision to part company with manager David Moyes at the end of the 2023/24 season was fuelled primarily because the fans didn’t like his style of football.
Fast forward to today, and the club are now on their third manager since Moyes departed. The big plan, whatever that is, clearly hasn’t worked.
Julen Lopetegui and Graham Potter both failed miserably, opening the door for former Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo to make a speedy return to work.
Nuno fell out with Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis, which raises questions about why he would think joining West Ham is a good idea.
The Hammers’ owners are a questionable bunch of characters who seem incapable of formulating a sustainable long-term plan and sticking to it.
When you factor in that Nuno’s style of play makes Moyes look like an advocate for total football, the club’s latest move seems doomed to fail.
Until West Ham have owners worthy of the name, this seemingly endless cycle of questionable decision-making will continue apace.
