Amorim says United must build on Chelsea win

Ruben Amorim has urged his Manchester United players to build confidence after their 2-1 victory against Chelsea at Old Trafford on Saturday.

United went into the game under pressure, having collected only four points from their opening four league matches this season.

They scored twice in the first half through Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro. Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez’s early dismissal gave United control of the game.

The match became more difficult after Casemiro received a second yellow card.

Chelsea pulled a goal back late on through Trevoh Chalobah, setting up a tense finish, but Amorim’s side stood firm and claimed the points.

Manager highlights aggression and urgency

Amorim stressed the need to continue improving and use the victory as a platform.

“Now it is time to create a bit of momentum,” he told Sky Sports. “We started the game really well, really aggressive.”

“I cannot remember a very good play from us, but we pushed our opponent in how aggressive we were in the first and second balls.

“I felt the urgency, especially at the beginning of the game. The sending off helped us. If you recall the first half, we had so many opportunities, three against one, three against two.

Despite securing the win, Amorim was quick to point out that his players needed to be sharper in front of goal.

“With the sending off of Casemiro, you never know what is going to happen, so we have to take the chance to kill the game,” he added.

United will now focus on their visit to Brentford next Saturday. The Bees were defeated 3-1 at Fulham yesterday.
