Newcastle United forward Yoane Wissa has been ruled out for around four to five weeks due to a knee injury.
The 29-year-old joined the Magpies from Brentford in a £55 million deal on deadline day.
But he sustained a knee injury while playing for DR Congo against Senegal last week.
Wissa returned to Newcastle and underwent a series of scans to confirm the full extent of the issue.
Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie claims the injury is not as bad as first feared, but he is not expected to be available until the end of the next international break in October.
Wissa will likely miss the three Premier League fixtures against Bournemouth, Arsenal and Nottingham Forest.
He will also be out of two Champions League encounters against Barcelona and Union Saint-Gilloise, and a League Cup game against Bradford City.
The DR Congo international’s injury is a big blow for Newcastle.
Manager Eddie Howe will mainly rely on Nick Woltemade, who scored a decisive goal in Saturday’s home win against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The English boss has Will Osula as a back-up option, while Anthony Gordon can also be deployed as a striker.
Gordon is suspended for the Bournemouth game next week after receiving a red card during the 3-2 defeat against Liverpool last month.
