Most Successful Penalty Takers in Premier League History

Taking a penalty is nerve-wracking work – and with the pace and the pressure of the Premier League, it’s a job only entrusted to the best players in each team.

And of course, players will miss occasionally, and those misses are highlights as moments that can make or break the match or season.

However, over the course of a player’s career, the only reason they are ever trusted to take so many penalties is because they score so many of them.

Here’s a look at the most successful penalty takers in Premier League history, ordered by their success rate.

There’s no surprise to see Harry Kane near the top in terms of both volume and a high success ratio – nine times out of 10, he will score.

But in light of Bruno Fernandes’ recent penalty miss, it’s worth pointing out that his conversion ratio is similar to that of Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, Mohamed Salah and Sergio Aguero – not perfect, but eight times out of 10 (or four out of five, if you prefer), that penalty goes in.

It’s not perfect, and a miss can skew numbers a fair bit (if he had scored, his success rate would be 87 percent, putting him near Kane territory).

But the Manchester United captain is still a super-reliable penalty taker – the circumstances and fallout of his latest miss notwithstanding.
