Nottingham Forest are not ready to call a truce with Gary Neville as the feud between the parties is still unresolved, according to The Guardian.
The 2025/26 Premier League season kicks off this weekend with Forest set to host Brentford at City Ground, but Neville is still banished from the stadium.
The Tricky Trees are seeking assurances from the Sky Sports pundit before allowing him back into City Ground.
The former Manchester United captain was blocked from covering Forest’s final game of last season following a decision by owner Evangelos Marinakis.
The move came after Neville described the club’s behaviour as being like ‘a mafia gang’ in April last year. That didn’t sit well with Marinakis, who considered taking legal action against Sky Sports.
While Neville is not officially banned, Forest will not accommodate him unless there is an agreement on the language he uses when speaking about the club and its owner.
Sky Sports have already issued an apology for any offence caused by Neville’s comments.
The 50-year-old has not returned to City Ground since. He was denied media accreditation for the game against Chelsea, which forced Sky to tweak their coverage plans.
Sky labelled the decision ‘an unprecedented and unwelcome step’. Neville described it as ‘disappointing’, although he acknowledged that the club has the right to control access to their stadium.
Just two weeks before the ‘mafia gang’ remark, Neville criticised the Forest owner for entering the pitch after a draw with Leicester City to confront manager Nuno Espirito Santo.
Marinakis was reportedly upset that striker Taiwo Awoniyi was allowed to continue playing despite suffering a collision earlier in the game.
Neville called the incident ‘scandalous’ and suggested that the manager should consider leaving the club.
Forest didn’t break any rules by keeping Neville out, but the Premier League wasn’t pleased with how one of its main broadcast partners was treated.
Sky will still televise Forest’s season opener against Brentford on Sunday, but Neville will be on duty at Old Trafford for Manchester United’s clash with Arsenal.
