Newcastle United turn to Rodrigo Muniz as search for new striker continues

Newcastle United are intensifying their search for a new striker amid the uncertainty surrounding Alexander Isak’s future.

They have turned their attention towards Brazilian forward Rodrigo Muniz, according to the Daily Mail.

Muniz joined Fulham from Flamengo in 2021 for around £7 million and has scored 21 goals in 69 games since returning from a loan spell at Middlesbrough.

However, the Brazilian started just eight league matches last season, playing second fiddle to Raul Jimenez.

With just one year left on his current deal at Craven Cottage, Muniz could be open to a move. The allure of playing Champions League football is expected to appeal to him.

Newcastle’s search for a striker this summer has taken several twists and turns, with Liam Delap and Hugo Ekitike opting to move elsewhere.

Yoane Wissa is keen on a switch to St James’ Park, although Brentford’s negotiation stance has jeopardised any chances of a move.

Benjamin Sesko has been touted as the leading striker target. However, with Manchester United joining the race for the Slovenian, Newcastle could be set for more disappointment on the transfer front.

They are set to complete the loan signing of goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, but there is still more work to be done in the transfer market as Newcastle prepare for a return to the Champions League.
