Diaz’s departure marks the end of a successful two-and-a-half-year spell with the club. He made 148 appearances and helped Liverpool win the 2024–25 Premier League title.
Bayern’s interest in Diaz emerged earlier in the summer after the club missed out on Florian Wirtz.
Initial offers were turned down by Liverpool, but Diaz’s desire to move played a key role in accelerating negotiations.
He was granted permission to leave Liverpool’s pre-season tour in Asia on Sunday and flew to Germany to finalise the deal.
The 28-year-old had two years left on his contract and had been seeking improved terms for over a year.
With talks over an extension stalling and Liverpool looking to refresh their attacking line, the club were open to a sale at the right price.
Bayern had also explored moves for Nico Williams and Bradley Barcola. After failing to sign either player, they turned their focus back to Diaz and reached an agreement with Liverpool over the weekend.
Diaz is expected to operate on the left of Bayern’s front three, filling the void left by Leroy Sane’s exit.
His pace, directness and energy are viewed as key assets as the club aims to retain the Bundesliga title and push deeper in the Champions League.
Diaz leaves Merseyside with the appreciation of fans and teammates alike, having played a crucial role during a competitive and often thrilling period for the Reds.
