Inter Milan have identified Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Granit Xhaka as a potential replacement for Hakan Calhanoglu (h/t La Gazzetta dello Sport).
After the Nerazzurri declined Galatasaray’s offer for Calhanoglu, Fenerbahce are now looking to test the waters for the midfielder.
They are willing to offer up to €20 million for Calhanoglu, who has given the green light to the transfer.
The 31-year-old is ready to ask Inter to lower their demands. Inter value him around €30m, but a middle ground can be found for €25m.
Despite Inter’s firm stance that Calhanoglu is not for sale, the evolving situation may prompt them to prepare for a future without the Turkish star.
The Italian giants have enquired about Xhaka’s availability. The Swiss midfielder could leave the BayArena this summer after drawing interest from several clubs.
Saudi Pro League club Neom SC tabled a lucrative offer, but the Leverkusen captain declined it due to his desire to continue playing in Europe.
Sunderland and AC Milan have also been credited with an interest in Xhaka, who could be available for €8 m.
Inter can offer Champions League to Xhaka, who feels ready for the next chapter in his career.
The former Arsenal star has been a pivotal figure in Leverkusen’s rise, helping them win the Bundesliga in 2023/24, followed by a runners-up finish last term.
Atalanta midfielder Ederson is also on Inter’s wishlist, but his hefty price tag potentially rules out a deal.
Inter are prioritising a move for Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman, having agreed personal terms with him.
They have tabled an offer worth €40 million, but La Dea are demanding more for the Nigerian star.
