Manchester United have made a new offer to sign Bryan Mbeumo, according to The Athletic.
Brentford now considering a £70 million package – £65m up front plus add-ons. United had two earlier bids turned down by Brentford.
After ending last season in 15th place, United are keen to rebuild and believe Mbeumo would add much-needed quality to their attack.
Brentford are hoping to earn more than the £62.5m fee United paid to Wolverhampton Wanderers for Matheus Cunha earlier this summer.
No final answer has been given yet, but talks are expected to continue over the coming days.
Tottenham Hotspur were also interested, especially after hiring Thomas Frank from Brentford as their new manager.
However, Mbeumo has reportedly told both clubs that he only wants to join the Red Devils if he leaves this summer.
The 25-year-old joined Brentford from French side Troyes in 2019 and has one year left on his current contract.
Brentford still have the option to extend his stay by another 12 months.
United need to get the Mbeumo deal over the line

Mbeumo is versatile enough to play in several attacking roles.
He is quick, direct and calm in front of goal. He often finds space, takes on defenders and creates chances for others.
His energy, smart runs and strong work rate off the ball make him a good fit for Ruben Amorim’s fast style of play.
The Cameroonian would link up well with Cunha, giving Amorim more options in the final third.
His ability to play both as a central striker and from wide areas would allow United to switch tactics based on their opponents.
United view him as someone who can improve their squad and help them compete again.
They desperately need to finalise the deal to boost their chances of making a quick start to the season.
