West Ham United have secured the signing of highly-rated Senegal international El Hadji Malick Diouf from Slavia Prague in a deal worth £19 million.
Diouf, who can play as a left-back or left wing-back, becomes the latest addition to Graham Potter’s squad as the club strives to reinforce ahead of the new season.
The defender arrives off the back of an outstanding campaign in Czechia, where he helped Slavia win the league title in dominant fashion.
He was a standout performer, scoring seven goals in all competitions and making his presence felt in domestic and European fixtures.
Diouf said he chose West Ham ahead of interest from several other clubs, describing the move as the right step in his career.
“There were a lot of teams interested, but I chose West Ham first,” he said. “I’m happy to be here and I want to make it a good season for the team and the fans.”
Potter expressed his excitement at the arrival of the young defender, highlighting his character, versatility and ambition.
“He’s a player we’ve followed closely,” Potter said. “Diouf is young, hungry and talented, and has already shown great maturity by moving from Senegal to Norway and then to Prague.
“We’re confident he’ll be a strong addition to the group and a good fit for what we’re building here.”
Born in Dakar in 2004, Diouf began his career at Galaxy Football Academy in Senegal before joining Norwegian club Tromso in early 2023.
He impressed in his short spell in Norway, scoring three times in 21 appearances before moving to Slavia earlier this year.
Diouf made an immediate impact, scoring on his debut and becoming a key figure in a side that conceded just 18 goals across 35 league games.
His progress at club level was mirrored internationally, with the defender earning his first cap for Senegal in September 2024.
He also featured in Senegal’s historic 3-1 victory over England in a friendly this summer.
West Ham believe Diouf’s combination of athleticism, composure and attacking threat makes him an ideal addition to their evolving squad.
