Paris Saint-Germain forward Marco Asensio is on the cusp of finalising a move to Fenerbahce, according to journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu.
The Turkish giants have already scheduled a medical for the 29-year-old in Istanbul. Once that’s out of the way, they will go over the final details before making an announcement.
Fenerbahce have reached an agreement with PSG and agreed on personal terms with Asensio. The move has not yet been officially completed, but there’s growing confidence that it will be finalised.
Asensio wants to join a club that can offer him regular playing time ahead of the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
He believes that joining Jose Mourinho’s side could boost his chances of earning a spot in Luis de la Fuente’s Spain squad.
PSG is making a few changes to its squad, and Asensio views this move as an opportunity to remind De la Fuente of his quality.
Fenerbahce are offering Asensio a salary that matches the kind of offers he received from the Saudi Pro League earlier in the summer.
With the Turkish side also finding common ground with the European champions over a suitable transfer fee, the process is now in its final stages.
Asensio’s time in Paris didn’t quite go as expected. After joining PSG on a free transfer in 2023 from Real Madrid, he struggled to nail down a spot in the starting line-up.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s arrival from Napoli in January further hindered Asensio’s chances.
The Georgian star pushed Asensio further down the pecking order, which led to a move away from the French capital to Aston Villa for the second half of the 2024/25 season.
Asensio made his mark at Villa, scoring eight goals in 21 appearances for the Premier League side.
He also starred in the Champions League and almost helped the Villans topple his current employers, prompting talks of a potential permanent move to Villa.
However, both parties couldn’t agree personal terms and he returned to PSG.
