Nottingham Forest have returned with another offer for Brentford striker Yoane Wissa, but the approach has been rejected (h/t the Athletic).
Forest submitted a £25 million bid for the 28-year-old in January but could not get the deal over the line.
It is unclear whether Forest can clinch a deal this summer, but their interest remains with talisman Chris Wood turning 34 later this year.
Wissa would bolster the squad as they prepare to compete in European football for the first time since a UEFA Cup quarter-final defeat by Bayern Munich in March 1996.
He is a Premier League-proven performer who netted 19 league goals in the English top-flight to help the Bees finish in tenth place.
His performances caught the eye of several suitors, including Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and Forest.
Newcastle are in the market for a striker to replace Callum Wilson and provide competition for Alexander Isak.
Spurs are also considering a swoop for the DR Congo international to bolster their squad.
Big-money signing Dominic Solanke underwhelmed, and new boss Thomas Frank wants his former striker to push him.
However, a massive stumbling block for all suitors is the £50m price tag Brentford have slapped on Wissa.
The number could rise even further if they sell Bryan Mbeumo, with Manchester United keen.
With Wissa’s future uncertain, Mbeumo pushing for a move and captain Christian Norgaard already out the door, Brentford could struggle next term.
The £50m price tag on Wissa might keep suitors at bay for now, but their attacking identity could be gutted if he leaves.
Throw in a managerial change with a rookie stepping in for the long-serving Frank, and the sense of stability that defined Brentford’s Premier League success is eroding.
