Barcelona confident they can beat Bayern to Nico Williams with fresh talks scheduled

Barcelona and Bayern Munich are locked in a transfer tug-of-war for Athletic Club’s highly sought-after winger Nico Williams.

According to Foot Mercato, the Spanish champions are confident they can beat their German counterparts in the race to sign Williams. However, Barca think they have the upper hand.

The Spain international finished last season with 11 goals and seven assists in 45 appearances across all competitions.

He also played a key role in Spain’s dramatic 5-4 win over France in the Nations League semi-final, notching a goal and an assist.

Barca are long-term admirers of the talented winger. They’ve been tracking his development since his phenomenal performance in Spain’s 2024 European Championship triumph.

The Blaugranas want to reunite him with his international teammate Lamine Yamal at the Spotify Camp Nou, and Williams is open to a move.

Bayern were initially interested in Bradley Barcola, but they switched their attention after Paris Saint-Germain made it clear that he is not for sale.

Williams was open to joining Bayern, but Barca’s appeal may have tipped the scales in their favour. However, Barcelona could struggle to finance the move.

The Blaugranas are actively working to ensure the deal complies with La Liga’s financial regulations, which may require careful structuring of the transfer fee and wages.

Bayern will continue to push for Williams but have contingency plans in place.

Liverpool’s Luis Diaz is one of several players on their extensive shortlist, while Brighton & Hove Albion’s Kaoru Mitoma is also on their radar.
