AC Milan have registered their interest in signing Bayern Munich centre-back Kim Min-jae in the summer transfer window (h/t La Gazzetta dello Sport).
The summer overhaul at the San Siro is underway, with Milan bringing in Massimiliano Allegri as the manager and closing in on the signing of Real Madrid legend Luka Modric.
Strengthening the backline is one of their major objectives following yet another underwhelming season.
Min-jae’s future at the Allianz Arena is hanging in the balance after drawing interest from some of the top European clubs.
While Bayern have initiated talks to renew the South Korean’s contract, they are open to selling him for a suitable offer this summer.
The 28-year-old hasn’t reached the levels expected of him at Bayern, who paid €50 million for him in 2023.
His contract runs until 2028, and the German giants are looking to recoup €35m if they are to part ways with him.
Although he has struggled at Bayern, Min-jae was a colossus in the defence during his spell at Napoli.
He was instrumental in the Partenopei’s Serie A triumph in 2022/23 and also won the Serie A best defender award for that season.
Milan could struggle to match the former Fenerbahce star’s hefty wages, so they are lining up a loan move as an alternative strategy.
Jonathan Tah’s arrival on a free transfer has pushed Kim down the pecking order at Bayern. The South Korean could be tempted to revive his career away from Munich.
Milan are eyeing more defensive reinforcements. Malick Thiaw, Alessandro Florenzi and Theo Hernandez have been linked with an exit from San Siro.
Fiorentino’s Pietro Comuzzo and Lazio’s Mario Gila are among the centre-back targets for the club.
