Simone Inzaghi is set to become the new manager of Al-Hilal after agreeing to leave Inter Milan following four years in charge.
The Italian has reportedly accepted a lucrative offer from the Saudi Pro League giants, ending his spell at the San Siro after a period marked by silverware and near misses.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano claims Inzaghi has said ‘yes’ to Al-Hilal after days of reflection and direct talks with Inter’s board.
His decision comes just days after a painful 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final.
It was Inter’s second final in three seasons under Inzaghi, who also led them to the 2023 decider, which ended in a narrow 1-0 loss to Manchester City.
The 48-year-old departs with six trophies – one Serie A title, two Coppa Italia crowns, and three Supercoppa Italiana wins.
He also helped establish a clear identity at Inter, with a side built on high pressing, fluid movement and tactical flexibility.
But the 2024-25 season ended without silverware and with growing uncertainty.
Inter missed out on the league title to Napoli, lost the Supercoppa to AC Milan and were again beaten by their city rivals in the Coppa Italia semi-finals.
“It’s not the right time to talk about the future,” he said. “This was a tough result after a very long season.”
Al-Hilal, who have been without a permanent manager since Jorge Jesus left in May, identified Inzaghi as their top target.
The Saudi club are building an ambitious project ahead of the expanded Club World Cup and are in talks with several players including Bruno Fernandes and Victor Osimhen.
Inzaghi’s move adds to a growing list of manager departures from Serie A clubs, following Gian Piero Gasperini’s resignation from Atalanta and Milan’s sacking of Sergio Conceicao.
Inter are now considering potential replacements, with Cesc Fabregas, Roberto De Zerbi, Patrick Vieira and Christian Chivu all linked with the vacancy.
The Nerazzurri will hope to move quickly, as they begin preparations for the Club World Cup next month.
