Barcelona have been handed a massive boost as forward Luis Diaz has rejected a contract offer from Liverpool (h/t Mundo Deportivo).
Diaz has emerged as a top target for the La Liga champions in the summer transfer window, with sporting director Deco a huge admirer of his talent.
The Reds have been in talks to extend Diaz’s contract, which expires in 2027, but his agent has informed them about his desire to join the Catalan giants.
The Colombian international has also turned down a lucrative proposal from Al-Nassr.
The Premier League champions are also open to selling the former Porto star. They value him at around €80 million as they aim to generate funds to sign Florian Wirtz.
Despite their financial woes, Barca are unfazed by the price tag as they believe Diaz’s efforts to force his departure will provide more leeway in negotiations.
The 28-year-old has been an integral part of Liverpool since joining them in 2022, tallying 41 goals and 23 assists in 148 appearances.
He also played a key role in the Premier League triumph under Arne Slot last season, bagging 13 goals and seven assists.
With Ansu Fati on his way to AS Monaco, Barca manager Hansi Flick wants to add depth to their attack ahead of next season.
Díaz is known for his explosiveness on both flanks, particularly through his dribbling and ball progression. He can also play as a focal point in the attack.
Barca have also lined up Marcus Rashford as a potential alternative to improve their attack in the transfer window.
The Manchester United forward, who recently enjoyed a productive loan spell at Aston Villa, is open to taking a pay cut to join Barca.
