Bayern Munich have reportedly won the race to sign Florian Wirtz (h/t Sky Sport Switzerland).
The 22-year-old German international has been linked with several top clubs across Europe, including Manchester City and Liverpool.
However, the Bundesliga champions have emerged as the preferred destination for the creative midfielder, who has enjoyed a remarkable season.
Wirtz has impressed with his performances for Bayer Leverkusen and was named the Most Valuable Player in the 2023–24 Bundesliga campaign.
The German international has also registered 16 goals and 15 assists in all competitions for Leverkusen this season.
He has now decided to remain in Germany and join Bayern, despite strong interest from the Premier League.
Wirtz will boost Bayern’s creativity

Wirtz will form a creative duo with Jamal Musiala at Bayern.
Both players already share a strong connection as teammates for the German national team and could flourish under Vincent Kompany’s guidance.
Bayern’s midfield struggled with creativity at times last season, and Wirtz could help unlock defences more often in tight matches.
Manchester City have reportedly dropped out of the race to sign the player. They are now looking at other midfield options.
City are preparing for life without Kevin De Bruyne, who recently confirmed his departure after a successful spell with the club.
They have identified Dani Olmo and Morgan Gibbs-White as possible midfield targets.
Both players are considered capable replacements and may offer City new energy and vision in the middle of the pitch.
Wirtz’s decision to stay in Germany shows Bayern’s pull as they look to dominate again both at home and in Europe.
