Have Chelsea made the right decision to stick with Maresca for next season?

Chelsea are in danger of missing out on Champions League qualification this season.

The Blues are now fifth in the Premier League table, level on points with sixth-placed Aston Villa, following the 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United last weekend.

They host Manchester United tomorrow before visiting Nottingham Forest on the final day of the season. 

However, regardless of whether the club qualifies for Champions League football, Chelsea will reportedly not sack manager Enzo Maresca. 

This decision may not be to the liking of many supporters who find his style of football boring and ineffective. 

Maresca led Leicester City to the Championship title in his first season. But there are doubts whether he is the right man to take Chelsea to the next level. 

The Blues’ team produced brilliant results during the first half of the campaign and looked to be in the title race at one point. 

However, their levels quickly dropped, and they have been struggling to put together a consistent run of results. 

Missing out on Champions League football would be a big financial blow, but the club should stick with Maresca for at least another season.

Chelsea handed him a five-year contract last summer, which indicates their commitment to a long-term project. 

They have consistently changed managers over the past years, which has not worked for them. 

Given the quality of players at his disposal, Maresca should secure a top-five finish this season.

But even if they fail to qualify, the Italian’s achievements are enough to keep him in his job for another year. 

Chelsea have made it to the final of the Europa Conference League against Real Betis.

Their results have been unconvincing in the English top-flight, but they have conceded only 43 league goals this season. Only Arsenal and Liverpool have shipped fewer.

They have been creating plenty of scoring opportunities, but a lack of finishing has been an issue.
