Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Luis Campos is reportedly on the radar of several top European clubs.
However, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, he is not negotiating with Manchester United as previously claimed. There are no active talks between the two parties.
Campos, a former scout at Real Madrid, is one of the most experienced directors in football. He built the AS Monaco and LOSC Lille squads that toppled PSG in Ligue 1 before joining the Parisians.
The Portuguese transfer chief has built manager Luis Enrique a stellar squad that has clinched the domestic double and remains in the frame for the Champions League.
Unsurprisingly, his excellent work has caught the attention of several European giants, but it appears Man Utd are not in talks with Campos.
United must reconsider their stance on Campos
Man Utd parted ways with Dan Ashworth five months into his role as sporting director. The club fought tooth and nail to take him from Newcastle United but let him go unceremoniously.
Others have shared his workload, but Man Utd will need to bring in someone to fill Ashworth’s position.
There were tenuous Campos links to Chelsea. However, the Blues are satisfied with the work of Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley.
Given the recent missteps both Man Utd and Chelsea have made in the transfer market, it is remarkable that neither club appears to be pushing hard for Campos.
United have failed to establish a clear recruitment identity, buying players who do not fit into their puzzle.
Chelsea have spent heavily but incoherently, assembling a bloated squad that lacks balance and cohesion.
Campos has proven his ability to build title-winning teams with vision and efficiency, qualities both clubs desperately need.
Whether through arrogance or oversight, ignoring Campos could be yet another costly error by Man Utd or Chelsea.
