Haaland injury blow: Man City striker to miss a chunk of the season with an ankle injury

Manchester City striker Erling Braut Haaland is set to miss a chunk of the remaining part of the season due to an injury.

Haaland spearheaded Man City to a win over Bournemouth in the FA Cup yesterday but picked up an ankle injury after Lewis Cook fell on him.

The 24-year-old centre-forward left the Vitality Stadium in protective boots and on crutches, leading to fears he might be out for the season.

“Erling underwent initial tests in Manchester on Monday morning and will now seek specialist consultation to confirm the full extent of the injury,” Man City announced today

“Assessment remains ongoing to ascertain a full prognosis. The expectation is that Erling will be fit in time to play a further part in the remainder of this season, including this summer’s FIFA Club World Cup.”

Haaland will be a massive miss for City as they bid to secure a Champions League slot ahead of next season. The Cityzens have been quite inconsistent this term, languishing in fifth place.

They need to find their groove to secure a place in Europe’s premier competition next season ahead of Chelsea, Newcastle United, Brighton & Hove Albion and Aston Villa.

Haaland will be unavailable for crucial clashes against Manchester United, Everton, Villa and Bournemouth.

Man City need January signing Omar Marmoush to fire them up the table. The Egyptian is still finding his mojo in England, but a run in the team is an opportunity to prove his mettle and settle.

The rest of the City team also needs to step up to the plate as they bid to avoid missing out on Champions League football for the first time since 2010.
