Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha this summer.
They want to bring in players who fit manager Ruben Amorim’s philosophy and Nmecha fits the bill, according to German outlet BILD.
The Bundesliga club are in danger of missing out on a Champions League spot next season, which could force them to sell at least one key player.
United see this as an opportunity to sign the £40 million-rated midfielder.
Why Manchester United want Felix Nmecha
Nmecha has been one of Dortmund’s standout performers this season. The 24-year-old’s versatility is a key factor in United’s interest.
He can operate as a central or defensive midfielder – both areas where United lack depth. His ability to switch between roles would make him a valuable addition to Amorim’s set-up.
However, Dortmund are unwilling to part ways with Nmecha. To balance their finances, they would rather sell Karim Adeyemi, Gregor Kobel or Jamie Bynoe-Gittens.
Nmecha’s injury issues are a significant concern
Nmecha has been out of action for seven weeks with a ligament injury but recently returned to light training. His fitness will be closely monitored ahead of a potential transfer.
The 24-year-old joined Wolfsburg on a free transfer from Manchester City in 2021 before securing a €30 million switch to Borussia Dortmund two years later.
Since arriving at the Westfalenstadion, he has bagged five goals and four assists in 56 appearances. However, he has missed 34 matches due to injuries.
United recently missed out on signing Portuguese talent Geovany Quenda, who joined Chelsea instead.
This setback has prompted the club to explore other midfield options, and Nmecha has emerged as a strong candidate on their shortlist.
